Veteran journalist and multi-talented poet, Akeem Lasisi, on Sunday held his poetry art exhibition titled ‘African Citations’ at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.

According to him, the exhibition (of visual poetry, music and videos) was held to recognise the indelible contributions of some eminent personalities whose contribution to development of media, business, law, education and other sectors in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized.

The artist took time to render tributes to many notable Nigerians, including legal titan, Chief Afe Babalola; billionaire businessmen, Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola; Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka; the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho and others.

In one of the poems “You Know You Cannot Give Life,” dedicated to Femi Otedola, Lasisi cited the roles the Lagos-based businessman played during the COVID-19 pandemic and his other health-related interventions in the country. The poet also revealed his rare but bobbling romantic side when he rendered a love poem titled ‘Udeme’ to the admiration of the guests.

Speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, to whom a poem was also dedicated, said, “Works that he (Lasisi) did for eminent people, they will be very happy to see that they are being celebrated. I hope that one day the devotion that Lasisi has to his work will show.”

Highlight of the exhibition was rendition of the poems to the eminent personalities and unveiling/presentation of special picture frames to them.
