Ward head, others arrested for alleged kidnapping involvement in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has detained Usamatu Adamu, a 45-year-old ward head from Runka village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, in relation to a possible criminal conspiracy and kidnapping case.

According to preliminary investigations, he was allegedly involved in the criminal conspiracy and kidnapping of four people from Runka village in Safana LGA, Katsina State: Abdulkarim, Malam Sakoa, Malam Sirajo, and Ali.

On October 3, 2024, the suspect—who currently resides in Sabon Gida village in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area—was located and taken into custody on the basis of reliable intelligence.

The spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, paraded the suspect on Tuesday alongside two of his accomplices namely: one Rabe Sada, alias BBC, aged 62, and one Nasiru Sha’aibu, aged 48, all of Runka village.

According to Sadiq, the suspect (Ward Head) was arrested after painstaking investigation linking him to several kidnapping incidents in Runka village, Safana LGA of the state.

As investigation is still ongoing, the suspect had during interrogation confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned the following as his accomplices: one Rabe Sada, alias BBC, age 62, and one Nasiru Sha’aibu, age 48, all of Runka village, in giving information to one Umar, a notorious suspected armed bandits kingpin hibernating in Runka forest, Safana LGA, Katsina State.

The Command also announced the successful arrest of a suspected rapist for the brutal assault and attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl at Ambassadors Quarters in Katsina State.

The victim was sent on an errand by her mother when the suspect, one Usman Mohammed Iyal, m, age 24 of Ambassador’s quarters, armed with a knife, accosted, threatened, and dragged her into an uncompleted building where he then violently assaulted and raped the victim.

In a desperate bid to conceal his crime, the suspect threw the victim into a nearby well and hurled stones down the well, with intent to kill the victim.

Upon the victim’s disappearance, her father, Abdullahi Sabitu, reported the incident at the GRA divisional police headquarters, leading to swift action.

The Command’s spokesman said operatives launched an investigation, successfully rescued the victim from the well and arrested the suspect.

“The victim is currently receiving medical attention, an investigation is currently ongoing,” police spokesman said.
