The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he has not backed any aspirant for the governorship or other political positions in Rivers State, except Bola Tinubu for the Presidency.

Speaking at a joint meeting of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike said his only political allegiance for now is to support Tinubu, a position he noted has always been clear.

He added that errors made during previous election cycles would not be repeated, cautioning aspirants that no sitting governor has the authority to impose a candidate on Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor also acknowledged the role played by the State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, stating that their actions have significantly influenced ongoing political developments.

Wike urged members of the coalition to remain focused on advancing the interests of Rivers State, stressing that only those genuinely committed to the cause would reap its benefits.

He warned against the rush for endorsements and cautioned that personal ambitions could trigger internal divisions within the group.

According to him, the strength of the political alliance lies in unity and dedication rather than financial power.

He further alleged that external forces are attempting to create division among stakeholders due to their strong collaboration.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they will do anything to ensure we are divided,” Wike stated.

The minister also expressed displeasure with individuals who, after benefiting from appointments facilitated by the group, later turned against its leadership, describing such actions as a reflection of poor character.

He warned that those attempting to undermine others through dishonest means would ultimately fail.

Clarifying his stance on political endorsements, Wike dismissed claims of secretly backing candidates, maintaining that his position remains consistent both publicly and privately.

He reiterated that the only endorsement recognised by the group is for the Presidency, emphasising that President Tinubu remains their sole endorsed candidate.

Wike also commended council chairmen, Rivers elders, and party leaders for effectively coordinating stakeholders, noting that the absence of complaints regarding inclusiveness reflects the success of the gathering.
