Following his re-election as the Speaker of the tenth Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has urged his fellow members to give top priority to the well-being of their constituents.

Obasa shared this plea on Wednesday, expressing his gratitude for being re-elected and appointed as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly through his Twitter account.

“Lagos State is a great state with great potentials and we have a responsibility to harness these potentials and maximise them for the benefit of our people,” he tweeted.

“We must prioritise the welfare of our constituents and ensure that our policies are geared towards meeting their needs.”

On Tuesday, the lawmaker representing Agege 01 constituency, Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, was re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

His re-election occurred after he was nominated by Hon. Temitope Adewale, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye 1 State Constituency.

Following the issuance of the proclamation for the House by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Obasa’s nomination was seconded by Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluwadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Epe II constituency, resulting in a unanimous decision in favor of his re-election as the Speaker.

“History was made yesterday as I set the pace as the first legislator to be elected a record six times and the first to be Speaker for three consecutive terms in Nigeria,” Obasa wrote.

“I humbly extend my appreciation to the leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), my constituents in Agege for their continued support.”

Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, in his capacity as the re-elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, pledged to work tirelessly with his colleagues in the 10th Assembly to uphold the legacy of excellence associated with the House.

He emphasized his commitment to maintaining an open and inclusive administration where all members will have equal opportunities to contribute to the development of Lagos State.

Obasa, a six-term lawmaker, will be presiding over the Lagos State House of Assembly for the third consecutive term, having initially been elected as Speaker in 2015.

His re-election as Speaker was reportedly endorsed by 39 lawmakers-elect out of the 40-member House, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holding 38 seats and the Labour Party (LP) having two seats.
