We recovered over N13bn diverted funds in September 2024 – ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reported that it recovered over ₦13 billion in misappropriated public funds in September 2024.

ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, made this announcement during the launch of the commission’s 2024-2028 strategic action plan in Abuja on Wednesday. While emphasizing the commission’s ongoing commitment to its anti-corruption mandate, Aliyu did not specify the sources from which the funds were recovered.

“Over the past year, the ICPC has made notable strides in fulfilling its mandate. For instance, in September 2024 alone, we recovered over ₦13 billion in diverted public funds,” Aliyu stated.

He also revealed that the ICPC is undergoing a digital transformation to enhance its operations, which will include improvements in investigations, case management, and internal processes. This modernization effort aims to position the commission as a leader in using technology to fight corruption in the digital era.

Additionally, the ICPC is developing a specialized curriculum to bolster the enforcement capabilities of its personnel. Aliyu highlighted efforts to decentralize anti-corruption measures by equipping state governments, particularly through the involvement of State Attorneys General, to combat corruption at the local level.

Recognizing that prevention is key, the ICPC has ramped up its efforts to identify systemic vulnerabilities through System Studies and Corruption Risk Assessments. The commission is also working closely with Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen its grassroots monitoring mechanisms.
