Barrister Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, has restated the party’s faith in the court to render an appropriate verdict in advance of the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT.
At the inauguration of the Local Government Areas, or LGAs, Caretaker Committees, and the unveiling of the LP’s 2023 flagship projects on Sunday in Lagos, he made this statement.
Abure praised Lagos residents for rejecting tribalism in favor of a new Nigeria by turning out en masse to support the party during the state’s most recent general elections.
The chairman of the LP claimed that the All Progressive Congress, APC, had illegally taken the mandate that Nigerians had freely given to his party, but he was clueless about how to run the country.
He said: “APC has murdered sleep, they will sleep no more until they return the mandate they stole from us. They stole our mandate but they don’t know what to do with it. They don’t have an idea how to govern, that is why they are inflicting hardship on Nigerians.
“Only Peter Obi and the LP have the solutions to the numerous challenges the ruling party has plunged the country into. We are ready to provide leadership and we will show Nigerians that we can provide a better alternative. The journey for a new Nigeria has just started, and we trust the judiciary to do the right thing.”
Abure highlighted that the LP’s involvement in the most recent general elections altered the political landscape of the nation while urging the offended members to put down their swords and cooperate with the state executive in the interest of the party.
Pastor Dayo Ekong, the party’s chairman in Lagos, had earlier urged the newly elected LGA and ward executives to view their swearing-in as a sacred commitment to advance the party and serve the public.
Ekong challenged them to put forth their best effort and devotion in order to bring about the required transformation. She believed that the new Nigeria that the Labour Party would soon create would benefit everyone.
She emphasized the value and necessity of cooperation, noting that only through cooperation would they be able to accomplish the goal set by the party.
