We’ve fulfilled 85% of our promises to Kano residents – Abba Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared that his administration has fulfilled 85 per cent of its electoral promises, with only 15 per cent left to accomplish as he enters the second half of his four-year term.

He made this known on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed officials, including Chief of Staff Sulaiman Wali Sani, Director General of the Special Services Directorate Major General Sani Muhammad (rtd), and 11 Special Advisers.

Governor Yusuf attributed the progress to a careful evaluation of the administration’s performance over the last two years.

“I’m pleased to announce that we have executed 85 per cent of the promises made to the people,” he said. “We now have only 15 per cent left, and two years to complete them.”

The governor disclosed that the matter was under consideration by the State Executive Council to strategise effectively for the remaining tasks.

Focus on New Initiatives and Transparency

Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration was not slowing down. He revealed plans to introduce new programmes aimed at further improving livelihoods across Kano State.

“By Allah’s grace, we are rolling out new policies and programmes that will continue to positively affect our people,” he said. “And we cannot do this alone; your cooperation is essential.”

He urged the newly appointed officials to prioritise accountability and openness, and to offer direct feedback instead of internal speculation or blame-shifting.

“If anything goes wrong, don’t keep silent or go public unnecessarily. Tell us directly. That’s your role,” he advised. “You’re not investigating others; you’re part of the system.”

The governor also reminded them of the weight of responsibility that comes with managing public resources, emphasising that transparency and prudence are non-negotiable.

“The little resources entrusted to you are for the people. Handle them with integrity. There’s a limit you must not cross,” he warned.

Strategic Mid-Term Appointments

The appointments, described by Yusuf as strategic, are intended to reposition the government for the critical second half of its term.

“Every one of you is someone I know personally. I trust your capacity,” the governor said, expressing confidence in the appointees’ ability to drive his agenda forward.

As his government looks to complete its remaining 15 per cent of deliverables, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to improving governance and delivering tangible benefits to Kano residents.
