Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians for the state burial and national honours accorded to his father.
Speaking emotionally at a special Federal Executive Council session held in Abuja on Thursday, Yusuf praised Tinubu’s leadership and support during the family’s moment of grief.
“He was regarded not just as a politician, but as a friend and father,” Yusuf said, fighting back tears.
Yusuf also extended appreciation to the National Assembly, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, and Nigerians at large for their condolences and solidarity.
“Your calls, visits, and prayers are a great honour to his memory,” he said. “May Allah bless and protect you, Mr. President, throughout your tenure.”
Final Farewell
Buhari passed away on Sunday in London and was buried Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State, with President Tinubu personally receiving his body and leading tributes.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, and was previously military head of state from 1983 to 1985. He died at age 82.
His legacy, Yusuf noted, extends beyond politics, touching lives as a father figure and statesman.
