Menstruation is something every girl will have to go through. Most people do not know how to prepare girl child for it. Sometimes when these girls start without prior information, they get very scared.

Here are some tips that parents/caregivers can follow to prepare their daughters for menstruation:

1. Start the conversation early: Girls should be taught about menstruation at an early age, preferably around the age of 8 or 9 so that they are mentally prepared and not caught off guard when it happens.

2. Use simple language: Parents should avoid using medical jargon and explain the process in simple language that a child can understand.

3. Educate on hygiene practices: Parents should explain to their daughters the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices during menstruation, including washing hands, using clean and hygienic sanitary products, and changing them regularly.

4. Encourage open communication: Parents should create a safe and nurturing atmosphere where their daughter feels comfortable discussing menstruation and seeking advice as and when required.

5. Stress on the normality of menstruation: It is important to explain that menstruation is a natural process experienced by all girls and is nothing to be ashamed of.

6. Provide necessary supplies: Parents should ensure that their daughters have the necessary supplies, such as sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, menstrual disc, and enough information on how to use and dispose of them. Parents should also make heating pad available for them.

7. Offer emotional support: Some girls may find the onset of menstruation to be overwhelming. Parents should offer emotional support to ease any anxiety or concerns their daughters may have.
