Why EFCC raided my hotel — Felix Duke

The President of the Creative Industry Group, Felix Duke, has accused operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of raiding his Lagos hotel over a civil dispute with a retired United States military officer.

Speaking on Thursday’s edition of The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Duke alleged that EFCC operatives stormed the Duke and Duchess Hotel in Abule Egba on Friday, 1 August 2025, without a warrant.

“They came to my hotel uninvited, breaking through doors and looking for me. When they could not find me, they tried to abduct my wife,” he claimed.

Duke said the dispute arose from a land transaction in which the buyer, a retired US officer, still owed ₦8 million of the agreed price. He alleged that the buyer, his lawyer, and several others once lured him to the site intending to kill him. “They pushed me into a swamp and walked away. My surveyor rescued me, and I reported to Ajah Police Station,” he recounted.

He stated that police investigated, visited the scene, and invited all parties, including the buyer’s lawyer. However, he alleged that the petitioner later turned to another agency to “do his dirty job”.

When asked if the EFCC raid was linked to alleged cybercrime by hotel guests, Duke replied: “Exactly. They didn’t come for any fraudulent or internet scam reason. They came because of a civil case. The same EFCC investigated this last year and found me not guilty.”

The EFCC has not yet issued any statement on the incident or Duke’s allegations.
