Wike applauds protesters for shunning violence in FCT

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commended protesters in the nation’s capital for choosing peace and shunning violence.

Wike made this statement during the presentation of staff of office to the newly appointed graded chiefs in the FCT.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s readiness to dialogue with the protesters and mentioned that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking necessary measures to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Meanwhile, protesters in some states across the country took to the streets on Thursday to protest against hunger and hardship.

However, despite the traction gained by the protest, some states have ignored it and are continuing with business as usual.

For instance, youths in Bayelsa State were reported to have ignored the protest, earning praises from the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

Governor Diri praised the Bayelsa youths for heeding his call to abstain from the protests, highlighting that their decision reflected a commitment to peace and stability in the state.

He also expressed concerns about the origins of the protest activities, alleging that they were instigated by political figures who lost in the 2023 governorship election, and accused these politicians of leveraging the nationwide unrest to foment chaos in Bayelsa.
