A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu as national chairman and secretary, respectively.

The duo, alongside other members of the national working committee (NWC), emerged through a consensus arrangement during an elective convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Their re-election followed a motion by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to dissolve the party’s national caretaker committee.

At the gathering, Sule Lamido appealed to aggrieved members to return to the party, stating, “We are willing to forgive everyone. Come back, stay focused, and return to the PDP.”

Also speaking, Bukola Saraki emphasised the party’s resilience, saying, “The PDP is alive, active, and here to stay. It is deeply rooted in this country and firmly in the minds of Nigerians.”

Kingsley Chinda called for unity among members ahead of the 2027 elections, urging them to work together to reclaim political power.

Meanwhile, Abba Moro noted that members opposed to reconciliation had exited the party, while commending Wike for his loyalty.

In his remarks, Wike encouraged members to remain committed to rebuilding the party, expressing confidence that the PDP would field candidates and regain its mandate in 2027.

The development comes amid ongoing divisions within the opposition party, with a rival faction reportedly seeking legal action to stop the convention.
