Nyesom Wike, a Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, has offered to intervene in the legal battle that resulted in the detention of Yunusa Dahiru, a.k.a. Yellow, in Bayelsa State.
Dahiru was convicted to 26 years in jail by a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in 2020 for child trafficking and sexual exploitation of Ese Oruru.
Dahiru allegedly kidnapped Oruru in Bayelsa State in 2015, transported her to Kano State, and forcibly married and pregnant her.
The Rivers State Governor made the vow in Kano in response to a plea from Shehu Sagagi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Kano State branch, for more information so that he could make an informed decision.
Sagagi, in a welcome speech, requested the visiting presidential aspirant to, on behalf of Kano people, assist Dahiru who was languishing in jail.
Sagagi stated, “Kano is disturbed by a series of events that led to the conviction of our own Yunusa Dahiru, and we decried the inhuman treatment being meted out to him in jail. In the light of this, we request the governor to intervene on this matter so dear to us here in Kano State.”
Wike responded by requesting the case file and assuring Kano PDP supporters that he would do everything in his power to serve justice within the confines of the law.
Wike had already paid visits to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Kano’s Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
