The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday advocated for raising the retirement age for all categories of civil service employees.

Joe Ajaero, the National President of the NLC, made this request during the May Day celebration taking place at Eagle Square in Abuja.

In articulating some of the NLC’s demands, Ajaero emphasized, “It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants.”

Earlier in 2023, Ajaero informed The PUNCH that the NLC would exert efforts to engage in dialogue with President Bola Tinubu regarding this issue.

Currently, teachers employed by the government across all levels are benefiting from a newly implemented retirement age, a law enacted by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
