President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to refrain from speaking negatively about the country, emphasising that Nigeria has passed a crucial turning point and is now firmly on the path to progress.

Speaking at a book presentation by Governor Hope Uzodimma during his one-day working visit to Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday, Tinubu assured citizens that they would soon begin to enjoy prosperity, noting that the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary is a significant milestone.

“Nigeria has just turned the corner. You will see prosperity; you will have it. Those speaking ill of this country should stop. Sixty-five years of independence is no joke,” he said.

The President expressed pride in the nation’s founding fathers and their vision of a united, inclusive Nigeria—one that cares for the elderly and vulnerable, educates its children, and builds a welfare system to strengthen healthcare.

Tinubu stressed that the old ways had brought the nation to the brink of collapse, insisting that breaking with the past was not optional but essential for progress.

‘The worst is over’

The President declared that his party’s promise of change is becoming a reality ten years on, insisting that the “worst is over.”

“I stand before you confident yet humble enough to say that Nigeria is no longer where it was ten years ago—we have moved beyond that,” he stated. “We promised change, and today I can confidently say the worst is over.”

Tinubu reaffirmed that there would be no turning back for the country, pledging to lead Nigeria to “the mountaintop.”

As part of his visit, the President inaugurated several key projects, including the reconstructed 60-kilometre dual carriageway Owerri–Mbaise–Umuahia Federal Road, the Assumpta Flyover, and the newly built 6,000-capacity Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, all completed under Governor Uzodimma’s administration.
