Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the payment of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for state civil servants, effective from December 2024.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, confirmed that the approval followed the recommendation of the state’s Minimum Wage Committee.
The committee had advised a reconciliation of local government finances to ensure a smooth transition from the current salary structure to the new minimum wage system for local government councils.
According to the statement, the reconciliation process is nearing completion and is expected to be finalised shortly for approval, enabling the swift enrolment of local government employees into the new salary structure.
The state government has expressed hope that civil servants will show their appreciation for the gesture by contributing their best efforts towards improving service delivery.
