The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed a large consignment of seized alcoholic beverages in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area.
The Commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.
The exercise, according to the statement, was conducted in continuation of the Commission’s mandate to enforce the sanctity of Shari’a and the laws of Yobe State.
The Commission also confirmed that 84 persons were arrested in connection with prostitution and alcohol-related offenses, comprising 34 men and 50 women.
They were arrested alongside alcohol dealers during the operation.
“All the arrested persons have been charged before a competent court of law, while the houses used for the illicit activities remain sealed pending further directives from the Hisbah Commission”, it said.
