An irate mob in Dansadau town, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Wednesday reportedly assaulted a state legislator over claims of poor performance and abandonment of his constituents.
The lawmaker, Kabiru Mikailu, who represents Maru South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was said to have been attacked by residents when he accompanied Governor Dauda Lawal on a historic visit to the violence-hit community.
Residents accused the legislator of neglecting the area since his election, alleging that he failed to visit or maintain contact with constituents, even during significant occasions.
Some community members claimed the lawmaker did not attend Sallah celebrations in the town and also failed to visit to sympathise with families affected by recurrent bandit attacks.
Security operatives reportedly stepped in to calm the situation and prevent further escalation.
Governor Dauda Lawal was in Dansadau to flag off the reconstruction of the over 90-kilometre Dansadau–Gusau road.
During the visit, the governor also directed the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the town’s General Hospital and approved the provision of solar-powered electricity to enhance living conditions in the community.
He assured residents of his administration’s resolve to restore security, rebuild critical infrastructure, and improve the welfare of communities impacted by insecurity across Zamfara State.
The governor also received the chieftaincy title of Garkuwan Dansadau and was turbaned by the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, Sarkin Kudu Dansadau.
