Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has stated that the state is facing a liability of more than 13.6 billion naira in gratuities and pension allowances that need to be addressed for retirees from 2015 to the present.
During the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria, Zamfara State Chapter, held in Gusau, the state capital, the governor revealed that steps would be taken to settle the accumulated gratuities and pension allowances owed to retirees from 2015 onwards.
The governor, committed to enhancing the well-being of retired civil servants, pledged to initiate the payment process.
Governor Lawal explained that upon assuming office, his administration implemented significant measures to reduce governance costs by streamlining the number of ministries and commissioners to eighteen.
He also mentioned the formation of a committee tasked with conducting a thorough staff verification across all ministries to determine the precise number of employees, aiming to enhance welfare and boost overall productivity.
