James Iniama, one of the governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom State’s 2023 governorship election, has warned the state’s indigenes not to mortgage their future with money and has called for voter education.
Iniama, who issued the warning during a press conference at his Ewet Housing residence in Uyo on Tuesday, said that politics based on money was nothing more than a business with a financier.
He stated that his intention to run for governor was to ensure that the people of Akwa Ibom state have a brighter future than the state was meant to have.
The aspirant promised that if elected as the next governor, he would look closely at human capital development, which is currently lacking in the state.
He said, “There should be voter education across the country. Electorates should understand that a politician coming to shower them with money in an election is bargaining for the elective position and after the transaction you end up seeing no improvement in governance.
“My priority is to engage in human capital development. We will develop entrepreneurship. It will interest you to know that right from time, Akwa Ibom was not a civil service but a business driven state.”
On the issue of urban-rural migration, Iniama ,who is an estate valuers assured that his government would initiate an infrastructural road map where emphasis would be on rural development to decongest urban areas.
He stated that the much-discussed issue of the anointed candidate will not distract him, and that he will remain resilient and focused on his goals until the Independent National Electoral Commission releases the election schedule.
“I am focused on the conviction I have, which is to aspire to become the Governor of Akwa Ibom State,” Iniama said. We eagerly await INEC’s announcement of the timetable for the party primaries. So, for the time being, I’m keeping my focus and remaining deaf to distractions.
“I aspire to meet the needs of the approximately 8 million people of Akwa Ibom.” As a result, I bring issues to the table that I am familiar with.”
Iniama also promised to implement good agricultural policies to assist farmers in increasing food security, emphasizing that he will transition the state from subsistence to commercial agriculture through mechanized farming.
