A third force to rival the two major political parties will take off next month.

Its leaders met in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the weekend to elect the Southwest coordinating officers for the National Consultative Front (NCFront).

The objective is to birth a third force that can wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election.

A former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega, 2019 presidential candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP) Kingsley Moghalu and a former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) are among key personalities behind the movement.

Also at the Ibadan meeting were Prof Pat Utomi, Dr Usman Bugaje, and Buba Galadima, amongst others.

NCFront National Secretary, Sir Olawale Okunniyi, said the newly elected officers will coordinate activities of the movement in the Southwest ahead of the formal launch of the alternative mega party on March 8 in Abuja.

He described the NCFront as a movement of leaders of conscience who are determined to rescue the country from misgovernance.

He commended Labour leadership for its support for the movement.

Okunniyi said the country would witness the birth of the long-awaited people’s movement soon as plans have been perfected to launch it.

It was learnt that the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), National Rescue Movement (NRM) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) are among the parties that will coalesce into the third force.
