The All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tinubu is expected to defeat the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Governor of the state, in the state’s 2023 Presidential election, according to Muhammad Garba, Commissioner of Information for Kano State.

The commissioner compared the situation to the 1993 state Presidential election, in which the late MKO Abiola defeated Bashir Tofa, a Kano native, and claimed that history will likely repeat itself in 2023.

Garba participated in a media discussion with the theme “Let’s Talk Nigeria” that was sponsored by the Kaduna State League of Veteran Journalists and held at the Hamdala Hotel and The Arewa House in Kaduna.

He said, “I know the former governor of the state is also going to be on the ballot but history can repeat itself again in Kano because late Moshood Abiola of the defunct SDP defeated Kano born late Bashir Tofa of the defunct NRC during the 1993 presidential election.
“I am confident that Kano State will produce lots of votes come 2023. The votes from Nasarawa Local Government of the state alone is  more than the entire votes of the South-Eastern states combined. I am confident we will deliver Kano State to APC.
“The state government will provide an enabling environment for all the candidates and anything can happen and all candidates will certainly get their share of votes depending on how the electorates perceived them.”
Regarding security, the commissioner remarked that Kano State, which has the biggest population in northern Nigeria, is the most tranquil state because the state’s governor had created an environment that was welcoming to everyone, regardless of tribe, nationality, or religion.
“His Excellency wants to leave a legacy in Kano as the most peaceful state in the country,” he added.

Former Nigeria Union of Journalists national president Garba informed the veterans that the ongoing building of 30 stores started by the Ganduje administration was nearly finished.

According to him, the project’s goal was to give the state’s working journalists the financial resources they needed to carry out their duties effectively.

The commissioner bemoaned that “it is only in journalism that solidarity and support for the profession is not gotten,” while applauding the Kaduna Leagues of Veteran Journalists’ efforts and assured them of the necessary support. In particular, leaving a legacy in the field of human development is a desirable thing.
