Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola has been declared the governorship flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the August 2026 election.

Adedamola obtained 919 votes to secure the nomination during the party’s primary held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall in Osogbo.

His emergence followed the formal resignation of Ademola Adeleke—whose name had earlier appeared on the list of contenders—from the PDP shortly before the exercise.

Humphrey Abba, chairman of the electoral committee, revealed that 20 ballots were deemed invalid.

”Void votes 20. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew,” he stated.

“The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”

Meanwhile, Sunday Solarin, secretary of the electoral committee, explained that despite Adeleke’s resignation, the timing made it impossible to adjust the ballot papers.

He noted that Adeleke communicated his exit from the party on Monday night when ballot production had already been completed.

“There were two aspirants vying for the PDP ticket, but one of them, Governor Ademola Adeleke, resigned from the party late on Monday, and we couldn’t amend the ballot,” he said.

“So, as you prepare to cast your vote, bear in mind that only Adebayo Adedamola remains the PDP aspirant, as his opponent has resigned from the party.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 8, 2026.
