APC Convention: Banire bows out, says ‘I don’t need any office to continue the struggle’

The outgoing National Legal Adviser of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) Dr Muiz Banire, SAN has formally congratulated the new elected executives of the National Working Committee of the party.

Recall that the party held its national convention on Saturday where new set of executives were elected into the National Working Committee (NWC).
Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole emerged chairman of the party. Oshiomhole is taking over from Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday and obtained by Newsclickng.com, Banire reiterated that he had fought a good fight in the Entrenchment of internal democracy and the rule of law in the APC stressing that the battle is not yet over.

According to him, the stint he had at the NWC in the last seven and half years was indeed eventful urging the new APC NWC to extend the frontiers of the battle to banish Impunity and consolidate on the gains he bequeathed to the party.

Banire concluded by hinting that he would remain at the vanguard of deepening the nation’s democracy through periodic interventions using the platform of a group, United Action for Change, UAC.

The statement read, “To all compatriots, this is to formally announce my disengagement from the National executive council of All progressives congress and to express my gratitude to God and all well wishers.”

Let me state that my seven and half years tenure as the legal adviser of various parties at the National level has been eventful, particularly the last four years wherein we have battled extensively on the recognition and compliance with the rule of law. With all sense of humility, I must say that we have progressed but not yet at the ideal level of our dream.

“Therefore, it is my prayer, whilst congratulating the new executive members, that they strive further in attaining this height.

We need to continue building and strengthening party organs as opposed to individuals. As I continuously say, the only option to rule of law is rule of man which breeds nothing other than anarchy.

I pledge to my well wishers that in the spirit of United Action for Change, I do not need office to continue the struggle.
