Ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday, which is set to take place in Abuja, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023, Mr. Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesome Wike, attended the PDP’s national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

The former governor of the state of Rivers will be attending a PDP meeting for the first time since the presidential election last year.

Mr. Wike and the PDP leadership have been at odds, and he didn’t back Abubakar’s selection as the party’s nominee for president in the previous election.

In addition to his criticism of Mr. Atiku’s campaign during the election, Mr. Wike’s choice to assume a ministerial seat in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet of the All Progressives Congress exacerbated the division between him with important players in the area.

This caucus meeting is one of several that PD members will be holding in advance of the NEC meeting, where important choices about the party’s leadership and other matters that have endangered the party’s unity will be debated.
