Court orders INEC to recognise Imumolen as Accord Party Chairman

The Abuja High Court, under the leadership of Justice M. M. Adamu, has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognicse Chris Imumolen as the National Chairman of the Accord Party.

This order is in effect pending the hearing and determination of a lawsuit filed by Imumolen and 12 other party officials against Maxwell Mgbudem and 13 others.

In response to an ex parte motion presented by Christopher Okonkwo, counsel for the applicants, the court ordered the defendants to cease presenting themselves as the national executive committee of the Accord Party until the substantive suit is resolved.

Additionally, the court restrained the defendants from conducting any state or local government congresses of the Accord Party.

The suit lists Mgbudem, INEC, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and 10 others as defendants. The hearing has been scheduled for September 2, 2024.
