Defections: List of 30 states under APC control; opposition share six

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major shift in Nigeria’s political scene.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri announced that he, along with members of his cabinet and officials previously aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, had joined the APC. He described the move as being in the developmental interest of Adamawa residents.

With Adamawa now under APC control, the party governs 30 of Nigeria’s 36 states, leaving PDP with Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara. Meanwhile, Anambra remains under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abia is governed by the Labour Party, and Osun is controlled by the Accord Party.

Opposition left with six states

As it stands today, the PDP governs just three states: Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara.
