Edo, Ondo polls: APC, PDP release primaries guidelines

All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday released guidelines for governorship primaries in Edo and Ondo states.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the governorship poll will hold in Edo on September 19 and on October 10 in Ondo.

The ruling APC said, in a statement by its National Organising Secretary, Emma Ibediro, that aspirants are expected to pick the Expression of Interest Form for N2.5 million and nomination form for N20 million.

He said female aspirants and physically challenged contenders will enjoy a 50 per cent discount on the forms.

The organising secretary said the sale of forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja to Edo aspirants, which started on Wednesday, will close on June 2.

Ibediro said the last day of submission of completed forms, accompanied by other documents, is Wednesday, June 3.

Other schedule of activities include publication of claims and objections (June 8 and 9), screening of aspirants (June 10 and 11), primary (June 22) and primary appeal (June 24).

For Ondo State, the schedule of activities is as follows: sale of forms at the APC national secretariat (June 11 to July 1), last day of submission of forms and other documents (July 2) and publication of claims and objections (July 6 and 7).

Others are: screening of aspirants (July 8), Screening appeal (July 10) primary, (July 20) and election appeal (July 22).

The PDP, in its statement on the time-table and schedule of activities for Edo and Ondo by its National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd.), is silent on the expression of interest and nomination fees.

For Edo, the party official said the sale of forms, which started on Wednesday, will close on May 29, adding that June 2 is the last day for the submission of Forms EOI and NOI.

Other activities include: screening of aspirants (June 4), appeal on screening (June 6), ward congresses to elect a three-man ad hoc ward delegates (June 9), ward congresses appeals (June 13), local government congresses to elect one national delegate and persons living with disability per local government area (June 16), and local government congresses appeals (June 19).

Others are: publication of delegates’ list (June 21), gubernatorial primary (candidate nomination) (June 23-June 24), appeals on governorship primary (June 26), certification of deputy governorship candidate by the NWC and compilation of documents (June 28), last day for submission of names of candidate and deputy to INEC (June 29), last day of withdrawal and replacement of withdrawn candidates (July 13), and last day for submission of agents’ names to LGA offices of INEC (September 1) and date of election (September 19).

But Akobundu said the sale of forms to Ondo aspirants will take place between June 8 and June 22, adding that June 26 is the last day for submission of then forms.

He said screening aspirants will take place on July 2 while appeals on screening will be heard on July 6.

PDP ward congresses to elect a three-man ad hoc ward delegates will take place on July 8.

The national organising secretary said ward congresses appeals will be heard on July 13.

Also, he said local government congresses to select national delegates and persons living with disability per local government will hold on July 15.

Other activities are: local government congresses appeals (July 18), publication of delegates’ list (July 20), governorship primary and candidate’s nomination (July 22 and 23), appeals on primary (July 24), certification of deputy governorship candidate by NWC and compilation of documents (July 27), last day for submission of names of candidate and deputy to INEC (July 28), last day for withdrawal and replacement of withdrawn candidate (August 18), last day for submission of agents’ name to LGA offices of INEC (September 24), and governorship election (October 10).
