Christopher Adoghe, a frustrated voter, expressed his displeasure with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over delays in the commencement of accreditation and voting at Ward 1, Unit 3. This is the polling unit where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is expected to cast his vote.
“We’ve been here since 7 a.m., but there’s no sign of INEC officials. It’s almost 10 a.m., and nothing is happening. We’re not happy at all! We haven’t seen INEC, no one is here except security personnel,” Adoghe said in frustration. “Everyone is just sitting around, but no accreditation or voting has started.”
The gubernatorial elections in Edo State are underway, with over 2.2 million permanent voter cards distributed. Key candidates include Senator Monday Okpebholo (All Progressives Congress), Asue Ighodalo (Peoples Democratic Party), and Olumide Akpata (Labour Party), all vying for the highest number of votes. The winner will take over Osadebe House, the state government seat, when incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki’s term ends on November 11.
