Fromer President of the Nigeria Bar Association and governorship aspirant of Labour Party (LP), Mr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, yesterday, emerged candidate of the party for the September 21st Edo State gubernatorial election.
Chairman of the party’s Governorship Primary Election Committee and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetulu, declared him winner of the election which held at Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre in Benin with 316 votes.
Other aspirants, Kenneth Imansuangbon, scored 7 votes; Prof. Sunday Eromosele, 7 votes while Hon. Sergious Ogun polled 4 votes.
“Mr. Olumide Akpata, having scored the highest votes and satisfied the constitution of the party, is hereby declared winner and returned as the candidate”, Emetulu said.
He thanked the aspirants of the party for showing the spirit of sportsmanship and urged Akpata to carry them along.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Akpata while thanking members of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, paid tribute to late governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State his predecessor at the NBA who described as his mentor and friend, whose trajectory he said he was following and was laid to rest yesterday.
