Governance: Dantata backs calls for switch from Presidential to Parliamentary System

Kano businessman, Aminu Dantata, has thrown his weight behind the call for a parliamentary system of government as a solution to Nigeria’s problems.

Dantata announced this on Thursday, when he received a team led by House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda at his Kano residence.

On Wednesday, a group of 60 federal MPs suggested a change to the 1999 constitution that would shift from the presidential to the parliamentary style of governance.

On Thursday, federal lawmakers met with the Kano-based businessman to solicit his support.

Dantata, who rarely speaks on political issues in the country, shared his thoughts on the proposal by the lawmakers. He said the parliamentary system of government is the way forward.

The Minority Leader of the House led the team is confident that the parliamentary system of government would bring an end to Nigeria’s challenges.

The lawmakers will consider this endorsement as a major boost in their effort to effect a constitutional change in the country.
