Insecurity: We hope outcome of investigations won’t indict desperate opposition politicians – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged the worsening security challenges across the nation may be the handiwork of opposition politicians to weaken the Federal Government ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It however assured Nigerians of the capacity and commitment of the current administration to urgently address the challenges.

Secretary of the APC Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, in a statement on Sunday, hoped ongoing investigations will not indict PDP and oppositions of causing the security breaches.

He was reacting to a communiqué by PDP Governors on Saturday after their meeting in Abuja where they maintained Buhari has failed Nigerians at a time of grave national crises.

The PDP Governors observed the Federal Government seemed helpless and incapable of responding effectively to the festering security challenges.

They also expressed apprehension over the unrestricted incursion of Boko Haram terrorists into newer and inner territories, bemoaning the daily killings of innocent Nigerians, including police and other security personnel as well as mass abduction of students.

The PDP Governors warned Nigeria was fast descending into anarchy with the security of lives and property practically non-existent.

But the APC scribe said aside from the marching orders by the President to security chiefs to tame the challenges, high-level investigations were ongoing to fish out sponsors and perpetrators of the breaches

According to him: “While high-level investigations are ongoing to fish out sponsors and perpetrators of the security incidents, President Buhari has already given marching orders to our security services to check the security incidents.

“We pray the investigations should not reveal conspiracies by the opposition to weaken the government in furtherance of their desperate 2023 aspirations.”

Faulting the position of the PDP Governors, Akpanudoedehe maintained as Chief executives of their States who receive constant security briefings, they should not engage in divisive rhetorics that embolden criminals.

He warned: “This is not the time to play to the gallery but sit down to find real and lasting solutions. The latter is what the President Buhari administration is doing.”

“We urge stakeholders and indeed all well-meaning Nigerians to avoid politicising or being simplistic about the security situation. At a time like this, our duty to our nation as good citizens should outweigh political party colorations.

“The party and government definitely share concerns of well-meaning Nigerians, including PDP governors. However, let no one be in doubt as to the urgency and capacity of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to end the recent security incidents.

“We are however confident that our PDP governors and indeed all stakeholders will cooperate and support ongoing efforts to quickly and permanently end the security incidents,” Akpanudoedehe stated.
