JUST IN: Diri takes oath for second term as Bayelsa governor

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State has taken the oath of office for his second term in office.

At 1:58 pm on Wednesday, Governor Duoye Diri took his oath of office for his second term at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

Both Governor Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, were administered their oaths of office by the State Chief Judge, Justice Matilda Ayemieye.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, along with his wife, Patience Jonathan, and the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung.

Governors in attendance included Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Mohammed Bago of Niger, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak of Kwara, and Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, among others.

Also present were Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, and Uba Sani of Kaduna.

Former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and Adolfus Wabara, who is now the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, as well as other national and state leaders of the party, graced the occasion.

With a total of 175,196 votes, Diri defeated All Progressives Congress candidate Timipre Sylva, his major opponent.
