The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that Peter Obi will once again be its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Obi, a former Anambra State Governor, previously contested under the Labour Party in 2023, finishing third behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi vs Tinubu: 2027 Rematch
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, insisted that the next election would not be an easy ride for Tinubu.
“Tinubu is not going to have it easy in 2027. We are bringing Peter Obi back so they know we are serious,” he said.
Okonkwo’s Exit a ‘Relief’ to Labour Party
Arabambi also addressed the resignation of Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign, dismissing it as insignificant.
“Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should stop speaking about the Labour Party,” he stated.
The party spokesman further accused Okonkwo of working for President Tinubu and the APC, questioning his loyalty to the Labour Party.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. The idea that LP is going extinct is a figment of our detractors’ imagination.”
With the 2027 elections approaching, the Labour Party remains committed to challenging the Tinubu administration, banking on Peter Obi’s return to lead its charge.
