LG Polls: APC sweeps All Chairmanship Positions in Nasarawa, Cross River

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured all chairmanship positions in the local government elections held in Nasarawa and Cross River States on Saturday.

In Nasarawa, the ruling party emerged victorious in all 13 local government areas. The chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Ayuba Wandai, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Lafia.

According to Wandai, out of the 147 councillorship seats, the APC won in 140 wards, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured 5 wards, and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won in 2 wards.

In Cross River, the APC also claimed all 18 local government chairmanship positions and won all 196 councillorship seats.

The results were formally declared on Sunday by the Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), Ekong Bocco. Following the announcement, certificates of return were presented to the newly elected chairpersons, comprising 3 women and 15 men.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable Emmanuel Ironbar, congratulated the winners and emphasised the important responsibilities ahead, which include addressing the needs of their communities, promoting transparency, and upholding their electoral promises in line with the “People First” agenda championed by the State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu.
