Ogun Speaker formally joins 2019 guber race
The speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, has formally announced his intention to contest for the governorship seat on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019. He made the public disclosure during the week at an interactive parley he held with chieftains and members of the APC in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state held at Ayetoro, his hometown.
While explaining his desire to succeed incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun whose second term ends in 2019, the Speaker said there is great need for the people of the state to elect someone who will consolidate the immense effort of the outgoing administration and not someone who will jettison the many good policies and projects currently going on when elected.
He also added that it is time for Ogun West senatorial district of the state to produce a governor. According to him, discussions with other zones of the state are yielding assurances that Ogun West will be supported to clinch the seat this time. “I am convinced that with me in the race, and based on several discussions and appeals currently going on, our people from other zones will support our aspiration to govern the state this time,” he said.
He praised Governor Amosun for his support and encouragement so far while promising not to disappoint the people of Ogun State if he eventually becomes the governor.
“I thank Governor Amosun for always supporting and encouraging me. He is indeed a father to all. I have been the Speaker of the State House of Assembly for almost seven years now and your prayers and your support has not allowed me to fail,” he said.
