Osun 2026: ‘What exactly would he bring?,’ Omisore speaks on why Gov Adeleke’s bid to join APC was rejected
Immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Iyiola Omisore has explained why Governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke’s bid to join the party was rejected.
In July, speculation was rife that Adeleke, elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, planned to defect to the APC.
However, the Osun governor has consistently denied these claims, reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to the PDP.
Speaking on PrimeTime, an Arise Television programme, Omisore claimed that Adeleke has lost his political influence.
“Adeleke has made an attempt to come to APC, but we stopped him,” Omosore said, adding: “He was struggling to join, but what exactly would he bring?”
He said all the national assembly members from Osun elected under the PDP had defected to APC, and many of Adeleke’s former allies have moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
On the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osun, which began in February, Omisore said the withheld LG allocation was not the fault of the Lateef Fagbemi, the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) or President Bola Tinubu.
“NULGE has been on strike since February. If they had not gone on strike, the money would have been paid to the local government,” he said.
“This does not concern the attorney-general of the federation or the president at all. It has to do with the local government association in Osun state, accountant-general of the federation and accountant-general of the state.
“If they resume work today, the money would be paid into their account. Don’t blame Fagbemi or the president, put your blame on the PDP who has not allowed them to work.”
Last week, Adeleke asked the federal government to release the state’s LG allocations without delay.
He said there was no basis to withhold the LG allocations, adding that the federal government should release the funds to the elected LGA chairpersons.
