Osun PDP Guber Primaries Gale of Withdrwals by Aspirants hit party
Two more governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have withdrawn from the Osun PDP guber less than 24hrs to the primaries scheduled to hold today in the State.
This is coming hours after one of the leading aspirant, under PDP, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi withdrew from the party’s Tuesday primary election for the July 16 governorship poll.
Dele Adeleke and former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Fatai Akinbade announced their withdrawal from the primary poll late on Monday.
Adeleke said he withdrew to work for PDP leadership to win the gubernatorial poll in the state.
He said, “PDP is my party and I am fully ready to work for the party to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state”.
Meanwhile, Akinbade in a statement, said he was stepping down to respect the decision of the party elders who have reportedly named Prince Dotun Babayemi as the preferred aspirant of the party.
To this effect, the former SSG has declared his support for Prince Dotun Babayemi who is alleged to have been chosen by the party elders.
Checks by Newsclick Nigeria indicates that today’s primaries is a straight fight between the popular Senator Ademola Adeleke and Dotun Babayemi with the former said to enjoy strong backing of the national leadership of the party while the latter reportedly has the backing of greater majority of leaders of the party in Osun.
