The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has fixed its National Convention for 28 and 29 March 2026 in Abuja, following its 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday.

Abdulrahman Muhammed, Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, presided over the meeting alongside the Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The NEC reviewed the state of the party, plans for forthcoming congresses and recent judicial decisions affecting the PDP.

The committee reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, stressing that it remains the only lawful national administrative body of the party. It stated that the committee will continue to function as the National Working Committee (NWC) until the party elects substantive leaders.

The NEC also approved the timetable for congresses nationwide: ward and local government congresses in February 2026, followed by state congresses in March 2026.

It directed the National Caretaker Committee to issue comprehensive guidelines and notices for the congresses in line with the PDP Constitution, INEC regulations and relevant court orders.

Welcoming the Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan, the NEC reaffirmed its respect for judicial independence and urged all party organs and members to comply fully with court rulings.

Ahead of the national convention, the NEC ordered the immediate activation of convention sub-committees and the commencement of all logistical and administrative preparations. It also extended the tenure of state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of the congresses and the convention.

The committee called on party members to remain united and disciplined, urging them to prioritise collective party interests over personal ambitions. It expressed confidence that the resolutions would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability and reposition the PDP for future electoral success.
