PDP sweeps 15 LGAs in Plateau Poll

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has secured 15 local government chairmanship positions, as confirmed by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission.

Daniel Cishak, the Chief Returning Officer and Chairman of the State Electoral Commission, announced the PDP’s victory in 15 out of the 17 local government councils where elections were held.

Speaking at the Local Government Collation Centre in Jos, Cishak listed the councils won by the PDP as Barkin Ladi, Mikang, Shendam, Bassa, Riyom, Jos South, Jos East, Kanam, Qua’an Pan, Langtang South, Jos North, Mangu, Wase, Bokkos, and Kanke. Results for Pankshin and Langtang North are still pending.

The elected chairmen were later presented with their certificates of return by the PLASIEC Chairman in his office.

In the councillorship elections, PDP dominated as well, winning 222 councillorship seats across the 16 declared councils, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 14 seats and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one.

A total of 11 political parties participated in the local government elections across 17 local government areas of Plateau State, electing chairmen and councillors for a two-year term.
