PDP wins Taraba LG election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has won all of the chairmanship positions in the state’s just-concluded local government (LG) council election, which took place on Saturday.

In the 168 electoral wards spread over the state’s 16 local government regions, six political parties competed for both chairmanship and councillorship positions.

The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Philip Duwe, confirmed that the PDP had won all of the chairmanship posts.

He urged individuals who felt wronged to seek recourse through the electoral petition tribunal.

While the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the election to be cancelled entirely due to alleged anomalies, the PDP has requested the APC to address its internal squabbles before complaining about the results.

The election followed the dissolution of the former chairmen following the expiration of their tenure and the reduction of their years of service from three to two years by the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government is set to swear in the newly elected chairmen of the 16 local government areas on Monday with a view to granting fully the local government autonomy.
