The Rivers State Government has denied claims of suspending the construction of the 50.15km ring road project, which Governor Siminalayi Fubara initiated for construction in July.
The contract for the project was granted to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited with a price tag of N195 billion.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joe Johnson, conveyed in a statement that it is implausible to halt the road project when 77% of the contract payment has already been disbursed.
He also noted that the contractor is actively working to ensure that the project, scheduled for a three-year completion, stays on track.
“We wish to inform Rivers people and the general public to disregard such information as false. The project is for the advancement of our state and the improvement of the economy of our dear State therefore nothing whatsoever can stop it at this stage,” he said.
He urged the public to ignore the reports and advised information and news managers “to always verify their stories before going to the public space”.
