SUPER EXCLUSIVE: Tinubu summons Osun APC aspirants to crucial meeting as party crisis deepens
Fresh indications from a highly-placed and credible source within the Osun APC Secretariat, in Osogbo reveal that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has summoned all aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to a high-level meeting in Aso Rock, Abuja, later on Tuesday (today).
This extraordinary move by the President – who also serves as the National Leader of the APC – follows rising tension and widening cracks within the party after the controversial disqualification of seven governorship aspirants by the Screening Committee last week.
Background to a Brewing Storm
A total of nine aspirants had purchased and submitted both the Expression of Interest and Delegates forms, delegates backlog annual dues each paying nearly ₦60 million in mandatory fees. Many of the aspirants had also begun to build political structures across the 332 wards in anticipation of the December 13th APC primary election, which will determine the party’s flagbearer for the August 2026 governorship race.
However, the political landscape shifted dramatically when seven out of the nine aspirants were reportedly disqualified by the Screening Committee – a development the affected aspirants have jointly described as “the joke of the decade” and “a poor attempt at internal sabotage.”
The disqualified aspirants promptly filed appeals, but as of late yesterday, NewsClick Nigeria learned that the Appeal Committee had neither sat nor released any official position, leaving the entire process shrouded in uncertainty.
Tinubu Intervenes to Prevent a Divided House
According to our insider source, the President has been closely monitoring the unfolding crisis. Fears that the APC in Osun could head into both the primary election and the 2026 governorship election as a fractured house reportedly prompted today’s urgent invitation.
The source revealed: “The President is worried. He doesn’t want Osun APC to go into any election divided. The tension is too much already, and the aspirants are openly protesting. That is why he has called everyone to Abuja today. It’s a serious matter.”
The meeting, expected to hold behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, will bring together all nine aspirants, key party stakeholders, and select elders of the APC with the aim of restoring stability and ensuring a level playing field.
A Critical Junction for Osun APC
Observers note that today’s intervention may be the decisive moment that determines whether the party can resolve its internal disputes before the primaries scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 13. With the Appeal Committee silent and tension escalating across party camps, Tinubu’s direct involvement signals the gravity of the crisis.
As of press time, no official statement has been released by the APC National Headquarters or the Presidency regarding the meeting. And all efforts to confirm the President’s invitation from the camp of five aspirants NewsClick Nigeria reached out to early this morning were unsuccessful.
This is a developing story.
