Supreme Court rejects Obi’s appeal over Tinubu’s election

The Supreme Court has ruled that the appeal filed by the Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to invalidate President Bola Tinubu’s election lacks merit.

In a unanimous decision by a seven-member panel of Judges, the Supreme Court determined that Obi’s appeal should be dismissed.

Justice Inyang Okoro, delivering the leading judgment, stated that the issues raised by Obi in his case had already been addressed in a separate appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Justice Okoro pointed out that the only distinct issue in Obi’s appeal was the matter of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, having dual nominations from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court affirmed that it had previously ruled on the matter in an appeal designated as SC/CV/501/2023, which occurred on May 26.

“This court cannot allow the matter to be relitigated in this court. There must be an end to litigation. This matter ought not to have come here.

“The appeal lacks merit and it is accordingly dismissed,” the apex court held.
