Supreme Court reverses Kano Governor dismissal, affirms his election

The Supreme Court has overturned the removal of Kano Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to Justice John Okoro, who read the lead Judgement, the Court of Appeal was incorrect in upholding the tribunal’s determination that Yusuf did not receive the majority of legitimate votes cast in the Governorship Election.

In deciding the case, the Supreme Court addressed two issues: whether the lower court was correct in reducing the governor’s 165,616 votes.

Justice Okoro held that the tribunal was wrong in deducting the votes accrued to the governor.
