President Bola Tinubu has nominated lawyer Saseyi Ibiyemi as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to represent Ondo State.
If approved by the Senate, Ibiyemi will succeed lawyer ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the REC for Ogun State, according to a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Monday.
Ibiyemi, aged 58, hails from Ilaje in Ondo State and currently serves as the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State.
She graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. She also obtained a Master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University, Nasarawa State.
Additionally, President Tinubu has nominated Abdulrazak Tukur as a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North West region.
Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University, both in England.
He began his career with INEC in 1999 as an assistant chief administrative officer and rose to the position of Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, a role he held until December 2023.
Tukur’s nomination will also be subject to Senate approval.
