Zamfara: Police prevent political gatherings, rallies ahead of Supreme Court ruling

Police in Zamfara have prohibited political gatherings and rallies ahead of the Supreme Court’s decision on the state’s governorship election.

The ban was issued by Zamfara State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Dalijan on Thursday, only hours before the Supreme Court’s decision on one of the applications filed by Governor Dauda Lawal attempting to overturn the court of appeals’ decision that annulled his election and ordered a rerun.

He also warned the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to avoid making statements that could trigger violence in the state as the security forces would be on red alert and would deal decisively with anyone caught in the act.

While disclosing that operatives of the police have been deployed all over the State to ensure law and order, he called on residents of the state to go about their activities.
