Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has restated his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that education in the state attained the desired standard.

The governor made the disclosure on Saturday evening at the 60th Anniversary of Lagelu Grammar School (LAGRAMS), which was his Alma matta.

LAGRAMS located in Ibadan was established by the defunct Ibadan District Council on January 27, 1958.

“Let me reiterate our administration’s continued commitment to give education its deserved priority.

“Our administration has evolved several policies aimed at transforming education to the desired standard.

“Posterity will judge us if we fail to transform education to greater heights in this state,’’ he said.

Ajimobi said it was germane for all whether individual, group or government to pay more attention to education development in the state.

The governor commended the School Governing Board (SGB) and Alumni Association of the school for the tremendous feats recorded in transforming the school.

“The SGB model of school management was evolved by our administration to ensure participation of all stakeholders and this has yielded good results across the state.

“Education requires adequate funding, which government alone cannot do but give policy direction to ensure it attained the desired standard.

“We also evolved the Oyo State Model Education System Intervention (OYOMESI) towards character building and promotion of sound value system in our schools,’’ he said.

He said that the sounding character and value system obtained from the schools in the past was fading in the students, saying OYOMESI was evolved to restore such in the education sector.

Ajimobi, who re-affirmed his commitment to excellent performance as governor of the state, urged the people to constantly improve themselves in whatever roles they are playing.

The governor described Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who was the royal father at the event as the most accommodating person he has ever known.

He said that the monarch was his father any day, saying those whose stock-in-trade was to create crisis cannot cause crisis between them.

Chief Bayo Adelabu, Chairman, LAGRAMS SGB, Col Bola Ogunsanwo(rtd), Chairman Board of Trustee and Mr Tony Aletor, the Chairman, LAGRAMS Diamond Anniversary in their separate speeches commended the governor for his superlative performance.

They called on the governor not to relent on giving the best to education, while pledging their support for the institution towards achieving greatness.

Similarly, Prof. Olufemi Omisore, President, LAGRAMS Old Boys Association and Mr Tope Onipede, the School Principal also commended the governor as well as Alumni members for their tremendous support.

Omisore stated that the school had during the launching of a development fund for the school raised over N200 million, adding they have also facilitated more projects for the school.

The event featured the inauguration of projects and presentation of award to the governor as well as some old students of the school.

The event was attended by members of the state executive council, old students and students of the school.
