Amotekun announces deadline for installation of CCTV in Ondo
The Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps has given August 1, 2022, as deadline for compliance on the Executive Order issued by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in public and private institutions.
Governor Akeredolu last week signed the Order making it mandatory for all public places, financial institutions, restaurants, hotels and other lodging facilities, pubs, nightclubs, educational institutions and religious worship centres in all the 18 local government areas of the state to have functional video surveillance/CCTV equipment installed in strategic locations within their premises.
Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps and Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on Security Matters, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, in a statement yesterday said the Order was to show the Governor’s commitment to strengthening the security architecture of the state.
“Owners/proprietors of these premises are hereby enjoined to ensure the safety of all video recordings as any attempt to damage or manipulate such shall be liable to prosecution .
“The failure of any of the concerned operators/owners to comply with this directive will attract sanctions such indefinite closure and the owner (s) shall be prosecuted,” he said.
If, by August 1, these facilities do not have CCTV cameras installed on their premises, the Amotekun Corps would commence full enforcement, Adeleye said.
