Billionaire Businessman, Capt. Hosa Okunbo Is Dead; Buhari Mourns

Edo State-based billionaire, captain Hosa Wells Okunbo, is dead.

He died on Sunday in the United Kingdom where he has been receiving treatment for cancer.

A formal official statement on his transition is being awaited from his family, even as the news of his death has devastated‎ many of his business and political associates.

Meanwhile, Presiden Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the Chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions, Idahosa Okunbo, over the death of the renowned businessman and philanthropist at 63.

Buhari’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari mourns Captain Okunbo.’

The statement read, “The President notes that the late Okunbo with investments spanning the petroleum, telecommunications, maritime, and power sectors, among others, contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian economy, providing sustenance to many families in the process.

“As President Buhari prays for the repose of the soul of the late Captain, he urges those who mourn him, particularly the people of Edo State to whom he devoted time and resources, to sustain his legacies of well-spiritedness and large heartedness.”
